What ways can you market a film?
- Trailers
- Social media
- Posters
- Billboards
- Merchandise
- Website
- Radio
- Sponsored advertisements
Marketing involves all of the deals done to get the films shown and promoted.
'Above the line' advertising - Obvious promotion
'Below the line' advertising - Subtle promotion
To emphasise the "immersive world" (think Avatar) Disney introduced a mazelike Law of the Jungle website in partnership with the female-leaning Tumblr; ran special promos at IMAX theatres focusing on the snake Kaa; and created a touring virtual reality experience and 360 degree Facebook video emphasising the "Avatar"-like world of its jungle.
Disney pitched The Jungle Book to male audiences on ESPN and elsewhere as coming not from the studio that made Cinderella but from the studio that brought you Pirates of the Caribbean.
Disney have released a wide selection of new merchandise to tie in with the release of the new live action version of "The Jungle Book". These items can also be customised with your own messages and available online at DisneyStore.com. Included are mugs, t-shirts, pillows, a lamp, canvas art, water bottles and much more and the soundtrack released on Walt Disney Records.
